Chattr – Real-Time Slack-like Collaboration Platform

A real-time Slack-like collaborative platform for creating and managing workspaces, channels, and private messaging, with advanced admin controls and responsive design.

Overview

Built a production-style real-time messaging application enabling teams to create workspaces, manage channels, and communicate instantly. Implemented role-based admin controls, JWT cookie-based authentication, subscription billing via Razorpay, AI-assisted message generation for subscribed users, and a scalable backend with WebSockets and Redis-backed Bull queues for background jobs. Designed with a responsive UI supporting dark/light mode and a rich-text editor.

Key Achievements

Built real-time messaging with Socket.io supporting channel-based updates, message reactions, deletion, and image uploads.

Designed workspace and channel management with role-based admin controls including member removal, promotion, and invite links.

Implemented JWT cookie-based authentication with email verification, password reset, and username update flows via Nodemailer.

Integrated Razorpay subscription billing and gated AI message generation (Groq) behind premium access.

Used Redis and Bull queue for scalable background job processing including email handling.

Developed responsive UI with dark/light mode support and a rich-text editor (Quill) with bold, italic, links, code, and bullets.
